Welcome to another film breakdown article, and today we look at the negative running plays from the Tennessee Titans in their match up against the Cincinnati Bengals for week 10 of the 2017 NFL season. Yes, this is a much shorter article than usual, rejoice.
Tennessee Titans Film:
While this is a positive play, it’s a blocking breakdown, which causes Derrick Henry to run towards the sideline, without much chance of turning upfield. The negative aspect of this run is the blocking of Corey Davis, because his task is to block Nick Vigil. The run-pass option with Mariota freezes Michael Johnson from running up field, which is the advantage of having mobile QBs. The threat of Mariota running causes Johnson to freeze, and that is the assumed outcome the Titans are counting on. Unfortunately, Davis misses his tackle as he over-runs the blocking angle, which allows Vigil to close the running gap. Notice how Walker is blocking on this play, as he’s moving his defender towards the sideline, because he’s expecting the run to be inside of him. However, the missed block from Davis causes Henry to move outside, right into the area where Walker is blocking his defender towards.
The play here is set up for some good yards, but Derrick Henry trips over Ben Jones’ feet. The offensive line is providing a decent hole for Henry to run through, but the unfortunate trip renders this play useless.
This play doesn’t count, there is a holding penalty on the Titans, which nullifies the results of this play. DeMarco Murray makes a great cut to get to the hole, and then trips over the air in the open field. It’s just a baffling reason for falling down, because he didn’t trip over anyone nor did his foot slip. He just loses his balance out of the blue.
As you can see, there wasn’t much to discuss in terms of negative runs in this win for the Tennessee Titans. Usually, I like to break down more plays, but they just didn’t stand out in this game. Please like, share, and subscribe to the website to stay up to date on article.

Primarily, I work as a real estate agent at Keller Williams Realty in Franklin, Tennessee. I’ve lived in Nashville for almost a decade now, and my love for the city only grows deeper, like a 440 pothole. I follow the Titans closely, so I enjoy writing about the team and breaking down film. However, my main job consists of being a real estate agent, therefore if you need any kind of help with the sale/purchase of a home, I’d be happy to help you through the process. If you just want to talk about real estate, feel free to email me as well. I write a real estate blog as well, which I’ll leave a link to at the bottom of this section (as well as a few other places on the website) so please check it out.
